Apple Computer has quietly begun bundling a cover with its scratch-prone iPod nano portable music player, company customer support representatives confirmed Friday.
According to posts made Thursday and Friday on several iPod fan sites, the nano now includes a white fabric and plastic slipcover that resembles the one shipping with the new iPod video. A number of photos of the nano cover have been posted here.
Two Apple customer service representatives confirmed that the nano now ships with a cover. "I'd call it more of a dustcover than a case," said one.
"It's very much like what's included with the video iPod," said another.
Although Apple's corporate office didn't immediately respond to a call for comment, this is the first concrete step the Cupertino, Calif.-based computer and electronics maker has taken in response to criticism -- and several pending class-action lawsuits -- that the iPod nano scratches too easily.
