Austin, Texas — In its largest win to date outside of its corporate owners, the Starcore LLC alliance said it has licensed its digital signal processor cores to Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. for applications ranging from communications to mobile multimedia products.
Sung Bae Park, a vice president in the system LSI division at Samsung, said the company evaluated several DSP cores and chose to license the Starcore products partly on their video decoding and encoding performance.
The Starcore alliance, based here, includes Agere Systems, Freescale Semiconductor, and Infineon Technologies as its members. The cores are designed to handle both signal processing and control software.
Earlier, Starcore signed IP licensing agreements with Skyworks Solutions Inc. (Woburn, Mass.), a leading provider of modules to the handset market, and Legerity Inc., based here, for a voice over IP solution for wireless networks, said Allen Hyman, marketing manager at Starcore.
