WASHINGTON — A family of servers based on AMD's dual-core Opteron processor is being pitched by manufacturer Fabric7 Systems Inc. as highly scalable and flexible.
Fabric7 (Mountain View, Calif.) said its "fabric computing" approach simultaneously addresses I/O performance and management challenges in company data centers using switched fabric, mainframe-like I/O acceleration.
Fabric7 said it has worked with AMD to develop a new server approach that leverages Opteron performance while extending its Direct Connect Architecture.
The company also said Tuesday (Nov. 1) is has raised $32 million in private funding. Investors include New Enterprise Associates, Goldman Sachs, Selby Venture Partners, Vanguard Ventures, Foundation Capital, Sanmina-SCI and Yasuda Enterprise Development Co. Ltd.
