Curtain rises on Microsoft's security roadmap

Posted by inet - 2005-10-05

Microsoft is expected to update business users on its security strategy at a Munich IT event tomorrow.

The event, attended by Microsoft chief executive officer Steve Ballmer and Microsoft security business and technology head Mike Nash, will see the company outline its planned security strategy and product roadmap.

An enterprise anti-spyware solution could be announced, to follow the consumer version already in beta and used by thousands of consumers since its release at the beginning of the year.

Microsoft has previously said it plans to release a business version of the software, complete with business-ready management and deployment features, although no roadmap has so far been given for its introduction.

The software giant may also provide details on how it plans to develop its future Windows OneCare anti-virus subscription service, which until now has been seen as a consumer solution and is currently undergoing limited public testing.

Microsoft has been busy acquiring security technology over the last year, purchasing identity management firm Alacris and hosted e-mail security provider Frontbridge.

Technologies from the acquired companies may also feature in tomorrow’s product update.
