Epson America Inc. has introduced two new photo printers, the Epson Stylus Photo R220 and R340. Both use six ink cartridges. The Epson Stylus Photo R220 is the most affordable six-color photo printer in Epson’s line with a price tag under $100. The Epson Stylus Photo R340 is equipped with a 2.4-inch photo viewing monitor and memory card slots for printing photos without a connection to a PC. Both are compatible with Windows and Macintosh systems.
Both printers print at up to 5760 x 1440 optimized dpi, and produce borderless prints at 4 x 6, 5 x7, 8 x10, and 8.5 x11 inches. Print speed for 4x6 borderless photo in as fast as 57 seconds. The printers produce a text documents at up to 15 ppm.
The R220 connects to a computer quickly from front and back positioned USB ports, and is currently available for an estimated street price of $99.
The EPSON Stylus Photo R340 is a PC-free printer with the same basic specifications as the R220. With its 2.4-inch LCD preview monitor and control panel customers can select, crop and print without turning on a computer. The control panel allows users to choose paper type, paper size and number of copies, and its functions include a “print by date” option that lets users find the photos they want to print by the date they were taken. The panel also gives customers the ability to view photos with or without on-screen text, view and select photos using thumbnails and easily select a range of photos for printing.
The R340 can save images to USB-connected CD-R, Zip or flash-memory drives. An optional Bluetooth interface for printing from Bluetooth-enabled phones is available for an estimated street price of $69. The R340 is available now for an estimated street price of $199.
The Epson Stylus Photo R220 and R340 will be available in major computer, office and electronic superstores, a variety of retail stores nationwide and can also be purchased through mail order, the Internet and on the Epson retail Web site (www.epsonstore.com).
