Novatel Wireless announced Monday that it has delivered samples of EV-DO and HSDPA 3G external PCI ExpressCards/34 to laptop manufacturers and major carriers.
Novatel said the EV-DO Express cards will support speeds up to 2.4 Mbps while HSDPA cards will support speeds up to 3.6 Mbps.
The technology offered in both technologies is compatible with earlier versions of each respective technology. The EV-DO solution is compatible with earlier CDMA 1X networks while the HSDPA technology is backward compatible with WCDMA networks.
The firm indicated that some future laptops will support only the ExpressCard form factor.
