Yahoo Drops Premium Broadband Service

Posted by iNext - 2006-03-26

Yahoo Inc. has dropped its premium broadband service.
Yahoo Plus offered subscribers additional security, such as parental controls and firewall software, than what's available through the free portal. In addition, the service, which cost $5.95 a month, included 2GB of email storage, premium video content, commercial-free radio and 100MB of file storage.

In dropping the service as of April 22, Yahoo said this week subscribers would still have access to their personal data, but would go through the same channels as everyone else signed up for a free Yahoo account. Subscribers on a monthly subscription would not receive a refund, but customers who paid for an annual subscription would get a pro-rated refund.

Some of the services available on Plus as a package could still be subscribed to individually.

Yahoo, based in Sunnyvale, Calif., did not give a reason for pulling the plug.
