Timbuktu Pro 8.6 adds Intel and Skype support

Posted by iNext - 2006-03-06

As promised, Netopia has released an update to its remote control software Timbuktu Pro that enables it to run natively on Intel-based Macs. The Universal Binary update is free for registered 8.x users. New Timbuktu Pro licenses start at $94.95.

Timbuktu Pro enables users to remotely view and control other computers’ desktops over a network or the Internet. It’s a cross-platform utility that works both on Mac OS X and Windows. The Universal Binary update makes it possible to install Timbuktu Pro on an Intel-based Mac such as the new iMac, MacBook Pro or the Mac mini.

Also new to the 8.6 release is support for Skype, the Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) chat utility. So in addition to remotely controlling or viewing each others’ systems, Timbuktu Pro users can also voice chat as well, launching Skype calls from within Timbuktu Pro. Netopia says that Timbuktu Pro 8.6 leverages Skype’s Application Programming Interface (API) to navigate through routers, firewalls and Network Address Translation (NAT) devices.

Timbuktu Pro 8.6’s system requirements call for Mac OS X v10.3.9 or later, 15MB disk space, 128MB RAM, TCP/IP network connection, and to use Skype, a microphone on each computer.

More information about Skype is available from its Web site.
