Palm Unveils New High-End, Low-End PDAs

Posted by iTech - 2005-10-13

Palm Wednesday released two new PDAs, a high-end device with built-in Wi-Fi that costs $299 and a low-end color device for $99.
The Palm TX supports Bluetooth as well as Wi-Fi and has a 320 x 480 color display, the company said in a statement. It has 128 MB of non-volatile memory, which prevents data loss even if the battery runs out. The latest generation of Windows Mobile devices also have non-volatile memory.

The TX is based on the older Garnet version of the Palm OS. As with previous devices, it comes with DataViz Documents To Go for viewing and editing Word and Excel-compatible files. That application also can view and edit PowerPoint files. Its $299 price is about $100 less than it's previous high-end PDAs.

At the lower end of the PDA spectrum, the new Z22 costs $99 and has a color screen, the company said. The company said in a statement that it is aiming this 3-ounce device at late technology adopters that use paper planners.
