BANGALORE, India — France’s Thomson Group will supply set-top boxes manufactured in India to the direct-to-home (DTH) video provider, Tata Sky Ltd.
Tata Sky is a joint venture between India’s Tata group and Rupert Murdoch’s Star TV. Tata Sky will launch its services in a few months, and plans to offer digital TV services across India.
The agreement marks Thomson’s entry into the satellite TV market with set-top boxes developed and customized at its R&D center here. Tata Sky plans a nation-wide DTH service uninterrupted by power cuts
Thomson did not indicate whether it will make the boxes itself or outsource manufacturing to an India manufacturer.
