LAS VEGAS--At the Digital Experience press event at CES, we learned that Digital Lifestyle Outfitters has updated one of its best iPod accessories, and it will be called the DLO HomeDock Deluxe for iPod. The original HomeDock for iPod let you dock charge your iPod, and it provided audio and video connections to your home stereo.
The included remote let you control the iPod from afar, giving you access to track skip, play/pause, and volume controls, in addition to a unique playlist skip button. But unless your eyes are really, really sharp, you can't see much on the iPod's screen from 10 feet away. The new version's main enhancement over the original HomeDock, aside from some cosmetic differences that aren't yet final, is the ability to navigate your iPod via your television screen, making the HomeDock Deluxe an even better way to enjoy your iPod while you're being a couch potato.
The hardware we saw isn't final yet, but we found out that the HomeDock Deluxe will be slightly bigger than the original. We also got a look at the TV interface (pictured), which was fully functional and gave you visual access to most of the iPod's functions??most importantly, browsing your music collection. The final version, we're told, will have much more polish but won't be identical to the iPod's own interface. The DLO HomeDock Deluxe for iPod will be available in March 2006 for $149.
