Hynix Semiconductor Inc. has introduced what the company claims is the world's fastest and highest-density graphics memory, 512-megabit graphics double data rate generation four (GDDR4) DRAM.
GDDR4 DRAM is said to provide a nearly two-fold improvement in data processing speed over incumbent GDDR3. According to Hynix (Icheon, Korea) GDDR4 is ideal for 64-bit computer operating systems that manage vast amounts of data.
Hynix said its 512-Mb GDDR4 operates at 2.9 gigabits-per-second and processes 11.6 gigabytes of data per second. The company said it would soon begin sampling GDDR4 to leading graphic chipset suppliers and plans to start mass production early next year.
Hynix said it plans to introduce its GDDR4 DRAM with 14.4-gigabyte speed by the second half of 2006.
