ESPN The Cellco Now Available

Posted by iMark - 2005-11-29

ESPN has finally launched its Mobile ESPN cellular service by quietly starting to take orders from its Web site late last week.

ESPN announced the service earlier this year and is using cellular spectrum it is acquiring from Sprint. That makes ESPN a so-called mobile virtual network operator (MVNO). The service will provide sports-rich content, including personalized statistics and video highlights.

It will not, however, be cheap. The Web site indicates that you'll first need a phone, which will cost $399 after a rebate, then a voice and data service plan, which start at $64.99 a month for 450 voice minutes. The service and phone are also available at Best Buy and other retailers.
