A wireless mesh network that will cover the entire country of Macedonia was announced Monday.
The vendor that will supply the equipment for the network, Strix Systems, claimed that mesh network, which will cover more than 1000 square miles, is the first nationwide wireless broadband system in the world. The network will be built by On.Net, a Macedonian service provider, according to a Strix statement.
Strix said that the vendor has already deployed a mesh network in the country's capital of Skopje.
"This will enable consumers, businesses, and the government to use the Internet for many activities which are crucial for the development of the country," Predrag Cemerikic, CEO of On.Net, said in a statement.
The country has a population of two million.
