Taiwanese computer maker AOpen Inc. is about to put on sale a mini PC that looks a lot like Apple Computer Inc.’s Mac mini. The computer was first unveiled at this year’s Computex exhibition in Taipei in June and the design similarities caused a stir at the time.

The two machines are virtually the same size — both measure 165 millimeters square and at 50 millimeters high the AOpen machine is a millimeter thinner than Apple’s computer. They also have the same

Micron Technology Inc. sees partnerships with other companies as a strategy to improve performance, Chief Executive Steve Appleton said on Wednesday amid speculation that Micron might form a partnership with Intel Corp.

Prudential Equity Group said in a Tuesday report that Intel and Micron could announce a NAND flash memory joint venture in the coming weeks, with production based at Micron's Manassas, Virginia facility.

Shares of Apple Computer Inc. on Wednesday jumped to a record high as investors made bets on growth in its digital music and video businesses, analysts said.

Shares of Apple, maker of the market-leading iPod digital music player and Macintosh computers, hit an intersession high of $60 and were up 4 percent to $59.82 in afternoon trade on the Nasdaq.

Apple Computer has released an upgrade to its Tiger operating system. The update includes several bug fixes and some entirely new features.

Considered a minor upgrade, Mac OS X 10.4.3 now gives Mac customers the ability to encrypt instant-messaging sessions over the company's iChat application.

Also notable in this release is the update to Apple's Safari Web browser, the new version of which has passed the Acid2 Web standard compatibility test. Acid2 was written to help browser vendors ensure that

With the announcement in early September of the iPod video and new iMac, Apple Computer gave users two new applications: Front Row and Photo Booth. Unfortunately, the applications, Apple said, would only be available on the new iMac and had no plans to put them on any of their other products.

While Apple may not have had plans to distribute the applications, Macintosh enthusiast Web site McMac has made both applications available for download.

Apple Computer on Monday said its iTunes online service has sold a million videos in under 20 days, sending shares up almost 5 percent.

iTunes, the most popular online music store, began selling about 2,000 music videos and episodes of ABC's "Desperate Housewives" and "Lost" for $1.99 (1.12 pounds) on October 12.

The debut coincided with the launch of a new generation of Apple's iPod digital music player that can play video on its 2.5-inch color screen.

Owners of Apple Computer iPods have trouble using their trendy music players in their cars, according to an unscientific survey released last week.

The ``quick poll'' of 150 people, done earlier this month by the www.autobytel.com car-buying Web site, showed that only 33 percent of iPod users ``very successfully'' hooked up their players to their rides. Most owners said they were only somewhat successful (36 percent) or unable (31 percent) to do it at all.

Watching a TV show requires far more attention than listening to a song, so it would be no surprise if Apple Computer Inc.'s new video-capable iPod music player provided a less-than-satisfying viewing experience.

After all, the stylish design that puts thousands of songs in your pocket may not seem so cool after you've held it up to your face for hours. And while a tiny screen is great for displaying tune titles, a full-length TV show is another story.

Today's lesson comes from the gospel according to iPod.

Users of Apple's trendy device will be able to take the Bible on the move when an audio version, which also scrolls Scripture across the iPod screen, goes on sale in February.

"We believe this new format will make it more convenient and desirable for people to find time to either listen to or read God's word," said Mark Hunt, vice president and publisher of new media for Zondervan, the
